Heritage Open Days 2022

  • The Richard Roberts Archive Unit 14, Adswood Industrial Estate, Adswood Road Adswood UK (map)

Welcome, Heritage Open Days explorers!

This year we are open on Saturday 10th September 2022 with special talks, tours and our pop-up “Hive Café” open throughout the day. Come along and learn about how “Astounding Inventions” have been advertised through the years & meet the trustees.

Discover

Discover our collections of advertising artwork and reconnect to a time gone by with our nostalgic collections. We hold titles spanning most industries with a specific angle on motoring and transport.

Our trustee team will be on hand with guided tours and to chat about our exciting volunteer opportunities.

Learn

1100 – 1200 hours: Richard Roberts presents, "Shaving and its transition from manual to electric.”

Richard Roberts, founder of The Richard Roberts Archive and co-author of Making a Marque: Rolls-Royce Motor Car Promotion 1904-1940 (Dalton Fine Books, 2021).

The history of shaving goes back longer than anyone can remember but in modern times we have moved from the "cut-throat" razor of Victorian times to the latest all-singing all-dancing electric razor.

Come along and discover some of the many changes along the way in the Battle of the Razor.

1400 - 1500 hours: Peter Moss presents, “Astounding Inventions – The Model T Ford.”

Peter Moss, Trustee of The Richard Roberts Archive and co-author of Making a Marque: Rolls-Royce Motor Car Promotion 1904-1940 (Dalton Fine Books, 2021).

Find out about one of the most astounding inventions of all: The Model T Ford – the car that mobilised America.

Peter will go behind the scenes to tell of Henry Ford’s vision, and how he put it into effect and sold 15 million cars in just 19 years.

Enjoy

Our pop-up café, The Hive, will be returning for 2022. We will be serving an array of delicious homemade cakes, cream teas, and locally sourced coffee and tea.

The café is run and supplied on by donations and support from our volunteer team. All funds raised from the Hive Café goes directly to the upkeep and maintainence of the archive.

Access

While our archive is all on one floor it may be difficult to navigate for larger motorised wheelchairs.
