Reading Room

At the Richard Roberts Archive we like our home comforts while researching and browsing our extensive magazine and journal collections.

There are a number of facilites for you in the ground floor reading room, which is disability friendly.

  • Dining table with 6 chairs. Ideal for meetings.

  • Hot desk space for 2/3 people. Accessible for wheelchair users.

  • Several armchairs for individual research.

  • Main room lighting and desk mounted task lighting.

  • Free WIFI

  • Plug sockets and extension cables.

The reading room has been designed to be a ‘home away from home’ and has a small kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities. There is also a small fridge. The room is heated by a log-burning fire with wood sourced locally.

The archive operates strictly by appointment as we run educational daytime events for schools and special interest groups at the archive.

There are two ways to book space in our reading room. You can email us to discuss your requirements and to book a space.

Please note, we require 72hrs notice prior to your visit to gather the materials which you would like to view during your visit - we do not offer any in person ‘on demand’ services. Please also bring TWO forms of identification, one of which must be a passport or drivers licence. We operate a strict no identification, no access policy at the archive and reserve the right to deny access for any reason, at any time.
